Welcome- I'm Blake
Welcome! I’m A Blake Kennedy, aka Blake, and this is my beauty blog. I’ll be mostly focused on skincare, but I also love makeup, hair, and all things beauty. I love both Western and Asian brands. To me, skincare is an important part of taking care of myself, and all the other bits are just for fun. My skincare journey has taken me from a college student who maybe used a makeup wipe before bed to a 27-year-old with a multi-step skincare routine every night.
In high school, I didn’t really think about skincare. My mom gave me a classic three-step routine of a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, so I used it. I never had any trouble with my skin, and that trend continued into college. In college though, I was significantly more lazy with my skin. As I said, it was a good night when I used a makeup wipe. But I still barely broke out- I was so lucky. After college, I started to wise up that I needed to actually do something to take care of my skin. I would cleanse with micellar water, use a moisturizer, and add in other products without a consistent routine. Still- no problems. My real interest in beauty was makeup. I bought a contour palette on my 23rd birthday and started watching makeup videos. The very first YouTuber I started watching was ThatGirlShaeXO and I still love her content!
Then in my mid-twenties, all hell broke loose on my face. I didn’t know at all what I was doing though. Taking care of my skin was a chore that I resented having to pay attention to now. One day out of desperation I booked a facial appointment with an esthetician. She asked me if I had recently started medications when I started breaking out, and we realized that the culprit was likely my medicine for anxiety and depression. The very thing that was helping me feel so much better in other aspects of my life was making me feel terrible about my skin. I think that helped how I thought about skincare though. I knew that taking my medicine was self-care and now, taking care of my skin went along with that.
Once we went into quarantine in March 2020, I found I had a lot more time on my hands to watch YouTube videos, and I stumbled across Liah Yoo. I was hooked on skincare content from then on. I’ve learned so much about different ingredients, the science of my skin, and how to target my skin’s needs.
I could talk all day about skincare and makeup, so I started a blog! Welcome to my skincare journey. I have dehydrated skin that can be prone to being both oily and dry. I’m traditionally acne-prone and am getting interested in well aging (I prefer that to anti-aging!). I’m having a lot of fun finding what works for me and I want to share that with y’all.
